ARES
Amateur Radio Emergency Service
A branch of RAC dedicated to communications during emergencies.
DEC
District Emergency Coordinator
Is appointed by and reports to the SEC.
Responsible for ARES, usually for a section of a province.
EC
Emergency Coordinator
The leader of a local ARES group.
EMRG
Emergency Measures Radio Group
The name of the local volunteer radio communications group
Also known as Ottawa-Carleton ARES
EOC
Emergency Operations Centre
Where people providing services gather to "manage" an emergency.
Each local municipality and the Regional government, has an EOC.
It may be a meeting room which is also designated as the EOC
NTS
National Traffic System
An amateur radio network to handle formal messages.
Administered by Radio Amateurs Of Canada
RAC
Radio Amateurs of Canada
The national amateur radio organization in Canada.
SEC
Section Emergency Coordinator
Appointed by and reports to the SM.
Responsible for ARES within a province.
SET
Simulated Emergency Test
A continent wide test of communications both within a local area, and between areas.
Usually held in October or November.
SM
Section Manager
Elected position responsible the RAC organization within a province.
Includes ARES and the NTS in the province.
